The Avenger (MCM 1) is the lead ship in a new class of coastal minehunter and the third U.S. Navy ship to bear that name. The keel was laid down by Peterson Builders, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on June 3, 1983. She was christened and launcned on June 15, 1985; Mrs. Sybil Stockdale, the wife od Adm. James B. Stockdale (Ret.), served as sponsor of the ship; Commissioned on September 12, 1987. Cmdr. Robert S. Rowls is the first commanding officer.

December 11, USS Avenger arrived in its homeport of Naval Station Charleston, S.C., after a 25-day transit from Sturgeon Bay, WI.

From January 1-3, 1988, the Avenger was underway for degaussing runs at Charleston Magnetic Silencing Facility Cooper River range. Moored at Pier Y for testing on magnetic signature from Jan. 6-11; Underway for local operations from Jan. 11-12; Underway for routine training on Feb. 8.

From Feb. 12 through March 18, USS Avenger was underway for Refresher Training (REFTRA) in the Little Creek Op. Area.

March 20, MCM 1 arrived in Washington Navy Yard for an eight-day port visit to conduct Pre-shock testing. Underway for Independent Steaming Exercises (ISE) and standarnization trials in the Little Creek OPAREA from March 29- April 5; Returned home on April 8; Underway for OPPE Preps. from April 20-22, 25-29, May 2-3, 5-6 and 9-12th; Underway for routine training from July 6-8; Underway for ISE from July 12-14; Underway for OPPE Preps. from July 18-20; Underway for ISE on July 25; Underway for Operational Propulsion Plant Examination (OPPE) from July 27-28.

August 1, USS Avenger departed Charleston for acoustic trials and Combat Systems Ship's Qualification Trials (CSSQT) in the Port Everglades and Panama City Op. Areas.

October 8, The mine countermeasures ship pulled into Port Everglades, Fla., for a 10-day visit to Ft. Lauderdale. Returned home on Oct. 20.

From November 25 through Dec. 14, the Avenger was underway for Shock Trials in the Key West OPAREA. Inport Naval Station Mayport, Fla., due to bad weather from Dec. 11-12.

December 28, USS Avenger entered the Detyens shipyard in Wando, S.C., for a two-month Post Shakedown Availability (PSA). Returned to Charleston on Feb. 27, 1989; Underway for CSSQT in the Cape Canaveral Op. Area on March 3; Inport Port Everglades from March 5-6 and 11-13th; Underway for final contract trials from March 13-17; Inport Port Everglades again from March 22-28; Returned home on March 31; Underway for local operations from April 5-7, 10-11, 17, 19-20 and 24th.

April 26, The Avenger departed homeport in support of Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) project 005-OT-IIIA in the Cape Canaveral OPAREA. Arrived in Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, for emergent repairs on June 3; Conducted standarnization trials off Frederiksted, St. Croix Island, from June 16-22; Returned to Naval Station Charleston on June 28.

July 21, Cmdr. James D. Cope relieved Cmdr. Robert S. Rowls as CO of the USS Avenger.

August 15, MCM 1 entered the Atlantic Drydock and Marine shipyard in Jacksonville, Fla., for a three-month PSA II. Emergency undocking in preparation for Hurricane Hugo on Sept. 20; Underway for sea trials on Nov. 21; Returned home on Nov. 28.

From January 8-12, 1990, the Avenger was underway for ISE in the Charleston Op. Area. Underway again on Feb. 26; Port visit to Miami, Fla., from March 1-4; Returned home on March 7.

From May 1 through Aug. 3, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for operational evaluation of AN/SQQ-32 sonar in the Key West OPAREA.

August 21, USS Avenger departed Charleston for its maiden Middle East deployment in support of Operation Desert Shield. Arrived in Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va., on Aug. 22.

August 29, The Avenger departed Norfolk on board the Dutch heavy lift ship Super Servant III, along with USS Adroit (MSO 509), USS Impervious (MSO 449), and USS Leader (MSO 490), for a transport to Manama, Bahrain. Offloaded on Sept. 30.

January 3, 1991 MCM 1 departed Manama for MCM operations. Brief stops in Abu, Dhabi, U.A.E., on Jan. 6, 11 and 13th; Sortief from Abu Dhabi under DEFCON 1 on Jan. 17; Inport Dubai for magnetic deperming from Jan. 23-27; Inport Abu Dhabi for provisioning from Feb. 6-7 and Feb. 12; Conducted MK-103 sweep operations in the Kuwait OPAREA from Feb. 14-17.

February 18, After USS Tripoli (LPH 10) and USS Princeton (CG 59) were struck by mines near Faylaka Island, Irak, USS Avenger assisted all units in exiting the Tripoli minefield. Found and danned lines of nine moored mine in inmediate vicinity of Tripoli minestrike.

February 27, The Avenger became the first ship ever to locate and destroy a MANTA fiberglass-cased influence mine in combat, while conducting mine hunting operations off the coast of Kuwait; Returned to Manama on March 4; Underway again for MCM operatrions on March 14; Inport Ash Shuaybah, Kuwait, on April 3; Neutralizaed 6 MANTA mines from April 21-22; Returned to Mina Salman Port on April 26; Underway again on May 27; Brief stop in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia, to refuel on June 12; Transited Suez Canal on June 16; Brief stop in Augusta Bay, Siciliy, from June 20-21.

June 22, USS Avenger pulled into Naples, Italy, for a six-day upkeep. Port visit to Port Vendres, France, from July 2-6; Brief stop in Naval Station Rota, Spain, on July 8.

July 24, USS Avenger returned to homeport after an 11-month deployment in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AoR) in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

From October 7-17, the Avenger was underway for a visit to U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Underway for local operations on Oct. 21.

October 25, Lt. Cmdr. Joseph E. Zavodny relieved Cmdr. James D. Cope as CO of the MCM 1 during a change-of-command ceremony at Pier T.

From October 28-30, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for routine training in the Charleston OPAREA. Underway again from January 23-24, 1992, Jan. 29- Feb. 2, March 31- April 1, April 24-28, May 12-13, 20-22, 26-29, June 9, 23-26, 30, July 2, 6, 9 and 14-19th.

July 27, USS Avenger entered the Detyens shipyard for a three-month Drydocking Plased Maintenance Availability (DPMA). Underway for sea trials on Oct. 22; Underway for local operations from Nov. 3-5, 9-13, 16-20 and 23-24th.

From Nov. 30 through Dec. 21, MCM 1 was underway for deep water testing of AN/SQQ-32 in the Key West Op. Area.

From January 11-15, 1993, the Avenger was underway for Mine Warfare Training. Underway again for MIW training in Newport, R.I., from Jan. 21- Feb. 27; Underway for local operations from March 8-11 and 22-26th; Underway for routine training from April 25-30, May 3-7, 12-14 and 19-21st; Underway for OPPE rehearsal on May 25.

June 25, Lt. Cmdr. Terrance C. Ryan relieved Lt. Cmdr. Joseph E. Zavodny as CO of the Avenger during a change-of-command ceremony at Naval Station Charleston's theater.

From June 28- July 2, USS Avenger was underway for AN/SQQ-32 demonstration. Completed Degaussing check at the Charleston Magnetic Silencing Range and Crib from July 7-14.

July 15, The Avenger moored at Union Street Pier in downtown Charleston for a three-day visit. Departed Naval Station Charleston on July 22; Brief stop in Key West, Fla., to refuel on July 25.

July 30, USS Avenger arrived in its new homeport of Naval Station Ingleside, Texas.

From August 16 through Sept. 24, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for operational evaluation testing in Panama City, Fla. Underway for AN/SLQ-48 MNS training in the Gulf of Mexico from Oct. 15-22; Underway again for OPEVAL testing in Panama City from Nov. 8- Dec. 13.

From January 18 through Feb. 7, 1994, USS Avenger was underway for Degaussing check in Charleston.

February 18, Cmdr. Michael J. O'Moore relieved Lt. Cmdr. Terrance C. Ryan as the 5th commanding officer of Avenger.

May 3, Lt. Cmdr. John C. Piper assumed command of the MCM 1.

From May 4-6, the Avenger was underway for INSURV Preps. in the Corpus Christi OPAREA. Underway again from May 12-13 and 17-18th.

June 4, USS Avenger entered the Peterson Builders Inc. shipyard in Ingleside for a four-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA). Underway for sea trials on Sept. 30; Underway for local operations on Oct. 6, 13, 20, 25-28 and Nov. 3-4; Underway for a port visit to Key West from Dec. 7-19; Underway for OPPE Preps. from Jan. 11-12 and Feb. 2, 1995.

February 16, The Avenger arrived in Galveston, Texas, for a week-long port visit to participate in Mardi Gras festivities. Returned home on Feb. 26; Underway for OPPE Preps. on March 2 and 8th; Underway in support of exercise Kernel Blitz from March 29- April 6.

April 17, USS Avenger departed homeport for a three-month cruise off the East Coast. Inport Key West to refuel on April 21.

From April 24-27, MCM 1 participated in acceptance trials for the Forward Area Degaussing Range, TRANSMAG 2000, a CNO directed advanced degaussing experiment aimed at removing dangerous magnetic fields from MCM class vessels. Inport Naval Station Charleston from April 28-30.

May 2, The Avenger arrived in Naval Station Mayport, Fla., for a two-week training availability (TRAV). Inport Charleston from May 18-22; Underway for TRANSMAG 2000 operational tests from May 22-27; Inport Charleston from May 27- June 2; Underway for SLQ-48 MP3 operational testing from June 2-3; Inport Charleston from June 3-6; Inport NAB Little Creek from June 8-12.

June 13, USS Avenger arrived in New York City, N.Y., for a week-long port visit. Inport Naval Station Newport from June 21-23; Port visit to Boston, Mass., from June 25-29.

June 30, MCM 1 arrived in Eastport, Maine, for a five-day port visit to participate in the Independence Day celebrations. Brief stop in Morehead City, N.C., to refuel on July 8; Participated in Joint Fleet Exercise (JFTEX) 95-3 from July 9-12; Inport Charleston from July 13-14; Inport Key West from July 16-18; Returned to Ingleside on July 23.

From August 30-31, the Avenger was underway for sea trials after a one month Restricted Availability (RAV) at Braswell Services Group shipyard. Underway for PINS IV testing from Sept. 20-21; Underway for SLQ-48 MP3 testing on Sept. 26; Conducted MCM REFTRA from Oct. 2-27 and Nov. 1-10; MCM LTT from Nov. 13-24 and Dec. 4-8; Completed its first ever Mine Warfare Readiness Certification Inspection (MRCI) from Dec. 11-15; Underway for local operations from Jan. 9-10, 11-12 and 16-17, 1996; Underway again on Jan. 21.

January 25, USS Avenger arrived in Tampa, Fla., for a four-day port visit. Returned home on Feb. 2; Underway for local operations from Feb. 6-8, 10-11, 13-14 and 20-21st.

February 27, MCM 1 entered the Braswell shipyard for a three-month Drydocking Phased Maintenance Availability (DPMA). Moved to dry-dock at Gulf Copper shipyard at Aransas Pass, Texas, on March 19.

April 13, Lt. Cmdr. David M. Fillion relieved Lt. Cmdr. John C. Piper as CO of the USS Avenger.

May 14, The Avenger moored again at Braswell shipyard in Ingleside. Returned to Naval Station Ingleside on May 31; Underway for sea trials on June 13; Underway for routine training from June 15-16 and 20th; Underway for Tailored Ship's Training Availability (TSTA) I from July 2-4, 9-12, 16-18 and 23-24th; Underway for navigation check ride on Aug. 1; Underway for TSTA II from Aug. 6-7 and and 15-16th; Underway in support of JTFEX 97-1 from Oct. 15-22; Underway again on Oct. 28; Inport NAS Pensacola from Oct. 31- Nov. 5; Port visit to Lake Charles, La., from Nov. 7-12; Returned to Ingleside on Nov. 14; Underway for Reservist Weekend from Nov. 16-17.

From January 20-26, 1997, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for Gulf of Mexico Exercise (GOMEX) 97-1.

February 21, USS Avenger departed Naval Station Ingleside for a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet AoR. Inport Key West, Fla., to refuel from Feb. 25-26; Port call to Charleston, S.C., for degaussing runs from March 1-4.

March 5, The Avenger arrived in Naval Station Mayport for a brief port call before conducting VEMS trials off the coast of Florida. Inport Mayport again from March 7-13; Brief stop in Bermuda from March 17-18.

April 5, MCM 1 pulled into Portsmouth, England, for a nine-day upkeep. Port visit to Aarhus, Denmark, from April 17-21.

May 1, USS Avenger pulled again into Aarhus for a four-day port call after participating in MCMEX "Blue Harrier" in the Baltic Sea. Brief stop in Portsmouth for storm evasion on May 9.

May 15, Lt. Cmdr. Gary R. Gilleon relieved Lt. Cmdr. David M. Fillion as CO of the Avenger.

May 19, The Avenger arrived in La Spezia, Italy, for a five-day port call. Inport La Spezia again from May 26-29 after supporting MCMEX "Palmeria".

May 31, USS Avenger arrived in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for a three-day port visit. Inport Palma again from June 13-17 after supporting MCMEX "Alcudra".

June 19, The mine countermeasures ship pulled into Rota, Spain, for a two-day port call. Brief stop in Key West to refuel on July 11; Ordered to return to Key West on July 12 to tow the USS Black Hawk (MHC 58) to Tampa Bay, Fla; Departed Tampa for escort duty on July 14.

July 18, USS Avenger returned to homeport after a five-month deployment.

September 17, The Avenger departed Ingleside in support of Change of Commanding Officer. Lt. Cmdr. Stephen C. Shoen assumed command of the ship during a ceremony at sea on Sept. 17; Underway for navigation check ride on Sept. 19; Underway in support of MCMEX Co-operative Telos from Sept. 22-25.

January 12, 1998 USS Avenger entered the Southwest Marine shipyard in Ingleside for a three-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA). Underway for local operations on May 13 and 18-20th; Underway for TSTA II Engineering Certification (ECERT) from June 16-18; Underway for TSTA I from June 23-25; Underway for TSTA II from June 30- July 3 and July 6-8; Underway for TSTA IV from July 13-17 and Aug. 5-7; Underway for TSTA III from Aug. 11-12; Underway for MCM operations from Aug. 27-28; Underway for a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) assessment on Sept. 1; Underway for Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) from Oct. 13-14; Underway for TSTA IV from Oct. 27-28.

From November 9-13, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for mine laying operations in support of RONEX 99-1, in the Corpus Christi Op. Area. Underway in support of GOMEX 99-1 from Jan. 15-25, 1999.

February 24, USS Avenger departed Ingleside, along with USS Champion (MCM 4), USS Devastator (MCM 6), USS Scout (MCM 8) and USS Inchon (MCS 12), for a scheduled Mediterranean deployment.

March 1, The Avenger pulled into Port Everglades, Fla., for a brief stop to refuel. Brief stop in Funchal, Portugal, on March 19; Inport Naval Station Rota from March 23-30.

March 31, USS Avenger arrived in Malaga, Spain, for a five-day port visit.

April 8, MCM 1 arrived in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for a five-day port call before participating in NATO exercise Olives Vertes. Brief stop in Toulon, France, to refuel on April 19; Inport Toulon naval base again from April 21- May 1; Inport La Spezia, Italy, from May 3-9.

May 14, The Avenger moored outboard the USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) in La Maddalena, Italy, for a 12-day Fleet Maintenance Availability (FMAV) after participating in MCMEX Gallura' Port call to Palma de Mallorca from May 28- June 1; Participated in MCMEX Alcudra from June 2-10; Inport Palma again from June 10-14.

June 13, Lt. Cmdr. David A. Chase relieved Lt. Cmdr. Gary R. Gilleon as CO of the USS Avenger.

June 16, The mine countermeasures ship arrived in Malaga for a five-day port visit. Inport Rota, Spain, from June 22-28; Port call to Funchal, Portugal, from July 2-7.

July 28, USS Avenger returned to Naval Station Ingleside after a five-month deployment.

From August 20-24, the Avenger was moored at Ingleside Turning Basin-Nest 3 for a "safe haven" from Hurricane Bret. Underway for GOMEX 99-2 from Sept. 23-25 and 28-29th; Underway again on Oct. 8; Port visit to Tampa, Fla., from Oct. 12-18; Returned home on Oct. 21; Underway for MCM operations from Nov. 17-21, Dec. 13-14, Jan. 24-26 and Feb. 7-9, 2000.

From February 28 through March 10, MCM 1 was underway for a port visit to Mobile, Ala. Commenced a four-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA) on March 27; Underway for sea trials on July 14; Underway for MCM operations from Aug. 7-11, 14-17 and 21-25th; Underway for Command Assessment of Readiness and Training (CART) II from Sept. 6-7; Underway for MCM operations from Oct. 2-5, 16-19, 23-24, Nov. 1 and Nov. 13-14; Underway Demonstration (UD) on Nov. 16.

From January 8-19, 2001, the Avenger was underway in support of GOMEX 01-1.

February 15, USS Avenger departed Naval Station Ingleside for a scheduled eastern Pacific deployment. Brief stop in Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to refuel on Feb. 20; Inport Colon, Panama, from Feb. 26-27.

February 27, The Avenger pulled into Vasco Nunez de Balboa Naval Base, Panama, for a two-day port call after transiting Panama Canal.

March 30, Lt. Cmdr. John T. Beaver, Jr., relieved Lt. Cmdr. David A. Chase as the 11th CO of MCM 1 during a change-of-command ceremony in San Diego, Calif.

April 3, The mine countermeasures ship arrived again in Naval Station San Diego for a 20-day upkeep after participating in a two-week exercise Kernel Blitz.

April 26, USS Avenger arrived in San Francisco, Calif., for an extended eight-day port visit due to bad weather. Inport Naval Submarine Base Bangor, Wash., from May 11-17 after serving as host platform for testing of the advanced C4I technology at Dabob Underwater Range on May 9.

May 18, The Avenger arrived in CFB Esquimalt, B.C., for a week-long port call before participating in Mine Warfare exercises with the Canadian Navy. Inport Naval Station Everett, Wash., from May 25- June 4; Brief stop in Astoria, Ore., to refuel from June 6-7.

June 7, USS Avenger pulled into Portland, Oregon, for a four-day port visit to participate in annual Rose Festival. Inport Astoria again from June 11-12; Upkeep in San Diego from June 18- July 5; Brief stops in Manzanillo, Mexico, on July 12 and Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, on July 17; Inport Balboa, Panama, from July 22-23; Transited Panama Canal on July 23.

July 26, MCM 1 arrived in Roatan, Honduras, for a three-day port visit.

August 3, USS Avenger returned to homeport after a five-and-a-half month deployment.

September 7, The Avenger departed Ingleside for a Friends and Family Day Cruise. Underway for MCM operations from Oct. 15-19.

From November 26 through Dec. 18, the mine countermeasures ship was underway for GPS GAS-1 Antenna testing at the Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) range off Andros Island, Bahamas; Port visit to Port Everglades from Dec. 10-12.

January 21, 2002 USS Avenger entered the Southwest Marine shipyard for a four-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA). Underway for sea trials on May 14; Underway for local operations from June 25-26; Underway for CART II from July 24-26; Underway for training exercise from July 31- Aug. 1; Underway for escort duty from Oct. 13-19.

November 8, Lt. Cmdr. Glenn P. Kuffel relieved Lt. Cmdr. John T. Beaver, Jr., as commanding officer of the Avenger.

From April 21-25, 2003, USS Avenger successfully passed its INSURV inspection. Underway for MCM operations from June 5-22; Inport NAS Pensacola from June 14-16.

July 2, MCM 1 entered the Southwest Marine shipyard for a two-month Planned Maintenance Availability (PMA). Completed TSTA I/II/II/FEP from Sept. 21 through Oct. 8; Conducted complete change out of the 2A Main Propulsion Diesel Engine from Oct. 29- Nov. 17; Underway in support of GOMEX from Dec. 3-19; Inport Pascagoula, Miss., in mid-December for damage assessment to the port shaft; Underway for local operations from Feb. 17-20.

March 9, 2004 USS Avenger, along with USS Defender (MCM 2), departed Ingleside, Texas, for a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 3rd Fleet Area of Responsibility. Inport Cozumel, Mexico, to refuel from March 13-14; Brief stop in Colon, Panama, on March 20.

March 21, The Avenger moored at Vasco Nunez de Balboa Naval Base for a brief port call after transiting Panama Canal. Brief stop in Puerto Qetzal, Guatemala, on March 26 and Manzanillo, Mexico, on April 1; Inport Naval Station San Diego from April 8-16.

From April 16-30, the mine countermeasures ship was underway off the coast of southern California in support of the USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 3's COMPTUEX. FMAV in San Diego from May 1-12; Underway for local operations from May 12-27; Inport San Diego again from May 27- June 1.

June 12, USS Avenger pulled into Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, for a two-week upkeep. Underway for Q-Route surveys off the coast of Oahu from June 27-29; Inport Pearl Harbor again from July 1-6; Underway in support of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004 exercise from July 6-23; Inport Pearl Harbor from July 23-26; Port call to San Diego, Calif., from Aug. 7-12.

August 27, The Avenger pulled into Balboa, Panama, for a three-day port call. Transited Panama Canal on Aug. 30; Brief stop in Cozumel on Sept. 3.

September 8, USS Avenger returned to Naval Station Ingleside after a six-month deployment.

From October 12-14, MCM 1 was underway in the Corpus Christi OPAREA.

October 15, Lt. Cmdr. Philip E. Sobeck relieved Lt. Cmdr. Glenn P. Kuffel as CO of the Avenger.

September 21, 2005 The Avenger moored alongside USS Defender and USS Gladiator (MCM 11), in a modified moor of five MCM ships at Ingleside Turning Basin-Nest, in preparation for Hurricane Catrina.

September 29, USS Avenger is currently underway in the Gulf of Mexico conducting unit level training and sonar calibration operations. MCM 1, MCM 9 and MCM 11 are on standby to conduct survey operations in support of Hurricane Rita disaster recovery efforts of the Galveston and Houston safety fairways.

July 8, 2009 USS Avenger arrived in Sasebo, Japan, on board the Belizean-flaged heavy lift ship Ocean Force, contracted by U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC). The ship departed San Diego in June for an extended western Pacific deployment.

July 10, The Avenger was offloaded at Fleet Activities Sasebo’s India basin during a float on/float off (FLO/FLO) operation.

September 23, MCM 1 departed Naval Base Sasebo for local operations.

In December, USS Avenger became permanently homeported at Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo (CFAS).

September 5, 2010 USS Avenger returned to Sasebo after a five-week underway period.

October 2, Lt. Cmdr. Patrick L. German relieved Lt. Cmdr. Kenneth R. Lieberman as the 20th commanding officer of USS Avenger.

March 8, 2011 The Avenger returned to Sasebo, after a nine-day underway in support of annual exercise Foal Eagle off the coast of Republic of Korea. Underway for a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) Preps. from March 12-17 and 23-25th.

April 25, USS Avenger departed Fleet Activities Sasebo for a three-month maiden western Pacific patrol.

May 3, The Avenger moored at Sepanggar Naval Base for a five-day port visit to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

May 13, MCM 1 moored at Changi Naval Base in Singapore from a brief port call to refuel.

May 16, The mine countermeasures ship arrived in Lumut, Malaysia, for a four-day port visit.

May 23, USS Avenger moored at Sembawang shipyard in Singapore for a maintenance availability. Inport Sattahip, Thailand, from June 4-6; Arrived in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, on June 12.

June 23, USS Avenger arrived in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, for a scheduled port visit to Republic of the Philippines. Port call to Hong Kong from July 3-7; Inport White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, on July 16; Returned to Sasebo on July 18.

September 6, USS Avenger entered the Dry Dock #2 at SSK Shipyard in Sasebo for a three-month Drydocking Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA).

November 17, Lt. Cmdr. Patrick J. Sullivan relieved Lt. Cmdr. Patrick L. German as CO of the Avenger.

November 22, The mine countermeasures ship departed dry-dock; Returned to India Basin 9W on Nov. 28.

From March 27-28, 2012, USS Avenger was underway for local operations. Underway for routine training off Okinawa from July 12-30; Underway for local operations on Sept. 11; TRAV in Yokosuka from Sept. 24- Oct. 6; Returned home on Oct. 12; Underway for a Friends and Family Day Cruise on Oct. 27.

February 22, 2013 The Avenger is currently conducting preparations for its Mid-Cycle Inspection (MCI) with the INSURV; Underway for a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) assessment from June 13-14.

August 2, USS Avenger returned to homeport after a 24-day underway.

September 6, Lt. Cmdr. Todd Penrod relieved Lt. Cmdr. Patrick J. Sullivan as commanding officer of MCM 1.

November 1, USS Avenger moored at Berth 2 in Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, for a training availability (TRAV). The ship departed Sasebo on Oct. 13; Underway on Nov. 13; Returned home on Nov. 20; Underway for local operations from Jan. 23-25, 2014.

February 22, The Avenger departed Fleet Activities Sasebo for a two-week underway off Okinawa. Underway in support of exercise Foal Eagle 2014 from March 19- April 7; Underway for operations with the USS Patriot (MCM 7) from April 11-18; Underway again on April 23.

April 25, The mine countermeasures ship moored at Berth 1 1\2 in Fleet Activities Yokosuka for a TRAV; Underway on May 14; Inport Sasebo from May 26-27; Returned home on May 28.

July ?, Lt. Cmdr. Adam C. Soukup assumed command of the MCM 1 during an exchange of command and crew ("hull swap") ceremony, while moored outboard the USS Pioneer (MCM 9) at Berth 1, India Basin.

July 12, USS Avenger departed Sasebo, Japan, for the last time en route to San Diego, Calif.

September 30, USS Avenger (MCM 1) was officially decommissioned, after a 27 years of active service, during a ceremony at Naval Base San Diego and transfered to the inactive reserve.
